Converts to Christianity publically declaring their faith through
baptism in India are aware of the antagonism they face from Hindu
extremists, especially since a new government led by the Hindu
nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in May 2014. A ministry
leader in Odisha (formerly Orissa) state notes, "We await prayer as the
situation is becoming difficult since the new government came to power.
There have been attacks, assaults, threats to pastors and believers in
several parts of India." Another Christian leader told Christian Aid
Mission, "We were brutally beaten and injured by a group of people who
are against the Christianity. Twelve believers got severe injuries and
were admitted in the hospital and were under medication. The church
pastor and one of our church elders had been in jail for five days. Now
all the believers are fearful, scattered and wandering in the nearby
forest." Christian Aid Mission is helping persecuted Christians to
survive as well as supporting pastors, providing education for children,
and assisting a Bible school that operates on $200 per month.
