On May 5 World Watch Monitor distributed a news story with the headline "I escaped but my family was killed."
We have removed the story from the WWM website and we ask that you do not forward or reproduce the copy that was delivered to your inbox.
We released the story prematurely, before we had completed the task of independently verifying the personal accounts of persecution provided by the sources in the story. We attempt to provide news that is as accurate as possible, and that involves the often slow work of verification. In this case, we were not yet done with that job before we published the story.
While we continue to check out the claims in the story, we will revisit our internal procedures to help prevent a repeat of this episode.
