-- Despite the fact that Christian convert Ebrahim Firouzi should have
been released from prison on January 13 after completing the term of his
sentence, he continues to be held in Rajaei-Shahr prison in Karaj.
According to Barnabas Aid,
citing Mohabat News, another case has been opened against him in branch
28 of the Revolutionary Courts, but no further action has been taken to
date.
There is little freedom for Christians in Iran and many are in prison for their faith.
Found guilty of propaganda
against the Islamic regime, evangelism, connections with enemies and
foreign “anti-regime networks,” and launching a Christian website, Mr
Firouzi was sentenced to one year in prison plus two years of exile in
Sarbaz, a remote town in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
It was reported that when
family members attempted to pay the 200 million Toman (£4,850, €6,500,
US$7,300, AU$9,200, NZ$9,750) bail payment set by the judge, they were
rejected.
Mohabat News reports that at
the same prison, Christian prisoners were denied permission to attend a
Christmas and New Year party on December 30. Prison officials announced
the celebration and invited all prisoners to attend, only later telling
the Christians that they were not allowed to participate.
